James Nowlan

James Nowlan, born in Kilkenny in 1862, was the President of the GAA from 1901 to 1921. Following the Easter Rising he was detained in Frongoch internment camp from May until August 1916. When he retired in 1921 he was appointed Honorary Life President of the GAA, the only person to receive this title.
